Transport zone maps

These maps are supplied by the Ministry of Education. They show the transport zones for each school, which are the main factor in deciding where you can access school transport assistance from.

The Ministry of Education provides an interactive map showing transport zones for all schools in New Zealand. Enter your address to see which schools you are zoned for and whether you are eligible for school transport.

How transport zones work

To be eligible for free school transport, you must firstly live a certain distance from the closest school your tamariki can attend. Beyond this, your home must be located within the transport zone of the bus route that services your area.

What is suitable public transport?

Public transport is considered suitable if:

  • Runs within 2.4km of your roadside gate
  • Runs within 2.4km of the school
  • Does not need your child picked up before 7am, and still gets them there on time
  • Collects them within an hour of the school day finishing
  • Needs no more than one change of bus
